The Innovation Precinct is the key element of our mission to become a centre for excellence and the place for high-performing businesses. We aim to provide a location where businesses, particularly those within the defence, space, cyber-security and high-tech manufacturing sectors, can cluster in an environment which values collaboration and innovation.
Poplars values worker wellbeing and recognises the role a well-planned environment has on business and research outcomes. Our masterplan centres on providing a variety of functional spaces that will inspire.
Modern workspaces need to be multi-faceted and flexible in order to adapt to changing work patterns. From the coffee shop on the corner, to space to sit and think or the convenience of fresh food across the road, all combine to form a sense of place.
Innovation compatible with today's environment requires connectivity. Poplars is working with a number of communications companies to provide a diverse range of networks.
The estate is being developed with an eye to the future and built-in flexibility to adapt and evolve with future trends in transportation, energy and communications. For example, included in Poplars’ construction are strategically located charging points for electric vehicles to cater to the growing number of rechargeable cars and the future of autonomous driving.
The outdoor spaces are being designed and built to be an oasis which links business together and encourages pedestrian movement between precincts. The campus style boulevard places emphasis on people, not vehicles. Our designers are focused on a development with avenues of trees, inbuilt connectivity, active travel facilities, places for recreation and places to just sit and meet with friends.
Outstanding workspaces require collaboration and a vision that spans further than just a road verge or pocket park. Planning must consider the user’s experience from the time they enter the precinct to the point they arrive at their workspace.
Our Built Form Guidelines will ensure a seamless flow between public and private spaces to achieve a cohesive campus style development. These guidelines detail the vison for the area and the principles to be followed to achieve those outcomes.
Having this overarching structure will ensure buildings are suitably located and complement one another whilst allowing suitable areas for circulation and recreation. Guidance on attributes such as signage and wayfinding, lighting and sustainability will also add to a cohesive high-quality integrated precinct.
Innovation Precinct | Stage 1
The planning and design phase for Poplars Innovation Precinct – West is now well advanced. Construction of trunk infrastructure to the site as well as Environa Drive (the main arterial accessing South Poplars) is due to commence in late 2019/early 2020.
Opportunities remain in Stage 1 for businesses to secure a new business address by either a land purchase or lease option.
